You win some, you lose some...

We've just had another Google Toolbar Pagerank (TBPR) Update and it's one of them where you just have to accept the rough with the smooth. I've noticed very few gains among our sites and in general, an all-round loss. Even though we've done our usual hard work in increasing the rankings.

From time to time, Google has to check everyone back a peg or two. As the Google Pagerank (PR) only goes up to 10, there comes a time where the 10s remain 10s and everyone else has to relatively go down a little. Otherwise we'd end up with lots of PR10s, PR9s and the like, etc.

But it's not all bad news. It keeps you on your toes and makes you realise it isn't just about Google PR. It's all about getting people to your site and ultimately, selling your products.

Time to start work again in time for the next one - whenever that may be...

Barcelona Apartments

Barcelona Apartments are becoming very popular. It seems that everyone is buying apartments in Barcelona and renting them out by the day or week and making a small fortune. At least that's the theory.

The problem is that people wanting to rent an apartment in Barcelona need to know about the apartment before actually visiting Barcelona. How do they do this? There are probably 3 main ways: word of mouth from someone who has rented an apartment in Barcelona from a reputable Barcelona Apartment rental company, reading an advert via for Barcelona apartment rental in a magazine, or searching for 'Barcelona Apartments' via the search engines.

The 3rd option is where Barcelona search engine optimisation companies enter the equation. Their job can be split into two - those that wish to spend lots of money on expensive clicks by means of a Google pay-per-click (PPC) campaign, and those who wish to be found in the organic search engine results pages (SERPs) for terms such as 'Barcelona apartments', Barcelona apartment rental', 'renting an apartment in Barcelona' and the like.

Now having investigated this market, I have found Barcelona Apartment rental to be perhaps the single-most competitive search engine optimisation market in Barcelona. I imagine that most of the Barcelona Apartment rental companies are finding out the very same.

So what advice can I offer? Well try thinking a little before spending a lot. Think of how much a click is worth in a PPC campaign. Can you really afford to spend thousands of euros every month for the forseeable future? Is there not a better option?

Well I think there is. Spend some decent money on a good, solid, site optimisation strategy with a reputable company. See what they have to offer and ask for some proof that they can do what they say. Make sure your site which is updated regularly, has a good selection of outgoing links to relevant sites as well as quality incoming links and make sure the pages are optimised correctly.

If you can get top 10 ranking in the organic SERPs for terms such as 'Barcelona apartments', think how much money you'll potentially save in the long term. A few thousand euros spent up front is much less than a few hundred every months for the next 10 years. So think long term and make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. Before you waste your time and effort on expensive and often unrewarding search engine optimisation strategies, the market for Barcelona Apartment rental companies calls for thought.
