Latest Google PR Update

The latest Google Pagerank (PR) update seems to have finally settled down and can now be taken as updated. It has taken a couple of weeks for the results to become permanent and those that have seen positive changes can be happy and start to prepare for the next one which will probably be in another 3 or 4 months.

It would seem that over the last couple of years, Google has decided to update PR on a much less frequent basis. Gone are the days when PR was updated every month and along with it, the spamming which had obviously become too much.

Google have, as do the other search engines, a duty to their customers (those of us that perform web searches) to return relevant searches and so when people just bowl in and stick up a new site with hundreds of incoming links, something had to be done to stop such rapid rises to internet search engine fame. So whilst it isn't the best thing from the point of view of a web developer, the future still bodes well for those of us that simply want to put up new web sites with relevant, regularly updated content.

So it's now time to start thinking about the long term and getting those sites up ready for the next PR update.

The Barcelona Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Marketplace

The Barcelona Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Marketplace

What is the competition like in Barcelona for search engine optimisation? Performing a search in Google on 'barcelona search engine optimisation' brings up quite an array of results from directories listing so-called search engine optimisation (seo) consultants, through articles on best search engine practices, on to some apparently genuine companies offering search engine optimisation services.

But what do these companies offer? What exactly can they guarantee? It turns out that this is quite a competitive industry but simply stating you provide that service does not guarantee that you can give someone a top 10 Google listing, let alone top 5. Or does it?

How many of these places have live examples to show? It's easy to get to the top for something quite obscure like 'barcelona early evening chess and scones club', but for a phrase like 'barcelona advertising', you'd expect a little more competition.

Barcelona seems to be all business these days. It could be said that some of the fun has gone and where a relaxed and open-minded heart once was, a stressed and colder one, now takes its place. The reason? Competition. Work. Business. Long hours. Few holidays. Low pay. The result? A harder dog-fight to make your business work above all the competition where all are falling around you and the only way forward is rice, peas and Dia water.

Ever the more reason to try and get to the top of the search engines. But can you really get to the top? If you spend the time and money, it seems you can. Basically, any firm who says you can get to the top of a competitive barcelona market for a few hundred europes, is probably not very aware of the work and knowledge involved in search engine optimisation.

I knew very little about search engines a few years ago. But after dedicating a lot of time to studying them, I still feel I have a long way to go to fully understanding their complex workings. However, success is easily guaged in search engine optimisation, and the rewards are beginning to show. And while top 5 rankings are my aim, number 1 is the true goal.
